Cottingham guaranteed themselves a spot at Ganton in September with a home win against Hessle. East Riding u18 team player Cooper Beck held off the impressive Grace Lambert 3&2 and the ever improving George Coope beat Hessle’s other young starlet Libby Twiddle on the final green. Ewan McKenzie completed the clean sweep by beating Sam Sharpe 5&4.
That left all eyes on Burstwick who entertained Scarborough North Cliff – essentially a ‘winner-takes-all’ shoot out for the remaining spot to join Hull and Cottingham in the final (although a draw would also have sufficed for SNC).
Tom Ward led Burstwick off against Jack Northgraves who was hoping to continue his excellent form of yesterday in the ER Amateur Championship. However, Tom prevailed 5&3 to put Burstwick one win away from Ganton. Alex Hewitson duly delivered the necessary 2 points against Tom Benson and Ashton Webb completed the shut-out with a 2&1 win over Marcus Moore.
Thank you to all players who have taken part in the group stages. Some close matches and excellent golf, but, most importantly, enjoyable and played in a great spirit. Also to the parents who have had some long trips to get these matches played and finally to the great bunch of Junior Organisers who have marshalled their troops magnificently and got results through promptly with no dramas and to Alan Key for uploading them onto the website so quickly.
Thank you all.
Best wishes for the rest of the golfing summer,
East Riding Union Junior League Secretary
