Big wins for Hessle, Hornsea and Skidby throw Junior League wide open

A stunning two iron from 231 yards to the back of Hessle's par 5 18th green sealed victory for Luke Thornton over Hull's Harry Mukerjea. Despite the eagle putt sliding by [pictured], Luke's birdie was enough for a 2up win which brought Hessle's first points of the season.

When Callum Akester took out Alfie Thornton 5&4 and Fin Marshall won the last two holes to tie with George Pepper, Hessle's season had lift off to reignite chances of a place in the final at Ganton in September.

In the night's big tie over the horizon at Cottingham, Skidby took the spoils against their friends and neighbours 5-1. All matches in 'El Clasico' went to the final hole with Skidby wins for Alfie Slater and Bobby Beasley over the Burns brothers Warren and Callum respectively. A half in the top match between East Riding teammates Ewan Mackenzie and George Coope gave Cottingham a solitary point which left them at risk of losing their slot at the top of the table depending on news from elsewhere.

Last year's finalists Hornsea duly surged to the number one spot with a win over Beverley who struggled to get a full side out. The only match played was Alfred Anderson who beat Will Bentley 4&3. Added to two walkovers, the six point haul took the Rolston Road side to the top of the table as the league now takes a month long break to allow for exams.

At the end of June, the top two face each other at Hornsea, Beverley host Hessle in the battle of the bottom two and Burstwick entertain the in form Skidby. Hull have a bye week.
