Juniors step up the prep for season opener

With just nine weeks to go before the YIDU season begins with a home tie against York at Skidby Lakes, the ERUGC under 18s met at Ganton for the second time this year.

Team Manager Sunil Mukerjea arranged for level 2 referee Andy Webster to talk the boys through recent changes to the rules of golf and how to proceed in common situations such as taking relief, dropping away from penalty areas and whether or not you can declare a ball lost (look it up if you're not sure!)

A range session under the watchful eye of Ganton Head Professional Gary Brown took place as the overnight frost thawed, before the squad ventured out after lunch onto the course proper. It was great to see Yorkshire Boys captain Jack Northgraves join the team for the afternoon and play with Hornsea's young guns Seth Topham and Alfred Anderson.

Mixing the groups and allowing the top players to inspire the younger and less experienced players is a big part of Sunil's preparations for the seven match season and the target is to improve on last year's two wins and climb the Yorkshire Inter District table.

The York fixture is at Skidby Lakes on Sunday 14 May, See the full fixture list here.

The 2023 squad can be seen here on a new webpage.
