Skidby sail to the top of Junior League standings

It was fitting that on a windy evening Skidby sailed to the top of the standings with an emphatic whitewash of a strong Hessle side.

George Coope opened up with a 3&2 victory over Grace Lambert and then Bobby Beasley took out ERUGC boys teammate Luke Thornton 4&3. Other teams were hoping that bottom club Hessle could take something from the match, but Poppi Maxwell came up against Alfie Slater who sealed the 6-0 scoreline with a win at the 16th.

Hull and Burstwick met with qualification for the play-offs in the balance for both teams. In the top match ERUGC u18s team-mates Harry Mukerjea and Tom Ward clashed and were all square after 13 holes [pictured above]. Harry's pars at 14 and 15 took him 2up and he held firm to win on the 17th to put Hull in the driving seat.

In the second match Burstwick's promising 12 year old Ethan Matthews won his fourth match of the season against Max Darcy. Despite conceding a lot of distance off the tee, a dynamite short game got the job done 3&2.

All eyes on the bottom match where Max Wright proved too strong for Jayden Bell playing away from Burstwick for the first time. Great experience though and Burstwick have two players to watch there for many years to come.

In the evening's final game, Cottingham finished their campaign (they have the bye next week) with a home tie against Beverley.  Again both teams were looking for maximum points to reinforce their top four position. In the end a 4-2 victory in favour of the visitors meant that both teams are now tied on 18 points in the league, just one behind new leaders Skidby.

Wins for Beverley's Huxley Sawyer and Will Bentley over Ewan Mackenzie and James Williamson respectively won the tie for the Westwood boys, but Warren Burns kept Cottingham's play-off chances alive with a 2up victory over Seth Fairburn.
