Lucas and Archie win the Junior Development Championship

The 18 hole yellow tee Junior Development Championship followed the first round of the Junior Championship. This competition, in its 2nd year, is for the improving player or the younger golfer (with a handicap index of 18.5 and above) who want a taste of 'Championship Golf'.

The players were on their own as regards golfing decisions and general play. Parents, grandparents and East Riding support helped each group keep up with play.

Leading the way and winners on the day were Lucas Wilson  playing off 28.2 & Archie Bean 19.9, both of Cottingham GC with 38 points. Archie had 2 pars and nothing worse than a double bogey on his card. Lucas, a par, but again was solid throughout his best ever round.

Hopefully this taste of a Junior golf day will see the young players move up to the Junior Championship and beyond in the next few years. It was great to see increasing numbers for this event and the enthusiasm shown by all the players.

Of the two entrants who played last year - Archie Bean, aged 12, whose handicap Index as come down from 26 to 19.9 and Malci Greenwood, aged 11, from 37 to 26.6 in the last 12 months. Great improvements all round.

President for 2023 Mike Dawson (Filey GC)  presented the prizes and thanked all at Cottingham GC for their help, warm welcome and hospitality throughout the day. Mike promotes the importance of Junior golf and Cottingham GC certainly live up to the mark with their programme and support for the Junior Section.

Edward & Eileen Clark, thanks for again manning the desk. Thanks also to, John Illingworth, Mike Dawson, Dave Greenwood and the parents and grandparents, who walked round and supervised the five groups.

Please keep an eye on the wwww.erugc.co.uk website for the 2024 fixtures which will be appearing shortly.
