73rd ERUGC Annual Dinner

The University of Hull was once again the venue for the 73rd ERUGC Annual Dinner held on Friday 31 March, 2023.

140 guests gathered in the Canham Turner Kingsley Suite for an enjoyable evening of good food, plentiful wine and golfing camaraderie organised by Ashley Pheasant of the KP Club.

Most of the Union's 25 clubs were represented, including 2023 newcomers Drax who were warmly welcomed by ERUGC President John Illingworth in his review of the year. Yorkshire Union President Laurence Wood was among the top table guests royally entertained by guest speaker Jim Robertson who gave a humerous account of his years as a solicitor in Airdrie and 32 years in the Procurator Fiscal Service north of the border.

All of Yorkshire's other seven unions were represented by their Presidents and Secretaries on an evening superbly overseen by toastmaster Howard Palmer who stepped in for the unavailable John Deeming.

Two awards were presented at the dinner to Under 18s Player of the Year Alfie Slater from the well represented Cottingham Parks Golf Club and Mens YIDU Player of the Year Paul Lockwood who has recently taken up the position of Head Professional at Driffield GC. Proud father and Team Manager Andy looked on from the players' table who totalled around 350 Union appearances between just the six of them (thanks in large part to Alan Wright's incredible 202 and Andy's 90 caps).
