Hessle and Cottingham rise to the top at Cave Castle

A sunny but blustery and cool day greeted the players for the Junior Team Championship.

Unfortunately, only five clubs were represented with maybe the Jubilee long bank holiday affecting entries. Well, done to Cottingham who fielded three teams on the day.

Most players struggled on the long course with a only one net score below par but the best round of the day and the winner of the individual gross prize was Luke Thornton of Hessle with a 78.

The only other gross score under 80 was Callum Burns with a 79 who with an excellent net 69 won the best individual net prize.

In a change to the rules this year (to mirror Yorkshire Golf Union) only two out of three scores were to count in the team competitions.

Hessle won the gross team prize with Luke Thornton 78 and Grace Lambert 83 (pictured above with ERUGC President John Illingworth) the counting pair for a 161 total, while Cottingham 3 won the nett team prize with Callum Burns 69 and George Coope78 the best duo of the three for a 147 total.

As you can only win one prize, Cottingham 2 were the runners up in the gross event.
