2020-21 East Riding President John Chambers (right) powered through the field with a stellar back nine to take the prestigious Rex Warren Medal played at its ceremonial home Driffield Golf Club.
After an underwhelming front nine of 15 points, John found his game after the turn and roared back in an incredible 24 points to take the spoils by two points over host club Captain Ian Halder. Slugging it out for third were Ian Jeffrey and Jonathan Clark who were in the same group and had matching 19 point hauls over the opening nine. Both frittered away shots coming home, but Ian just prevailed on the back six in the end to take his place on the podium.

Runner-up: Ian Halder (Driffield) 37 points
3rd place: Ian Jeffrey (Brough) 34 points (on countback)

Many thanks to all at Driffield Golf Club - the course really was in wonderful condition considering the recent heavy rain which drowned the boys, men and pros last weekend. Delighted that the Club Captain Ian Halder (below left) was able to join us on the day and play so well. Ian was delighted to accept a donation of £50 from the East Riding Union for Driffield GC's junior section from ERUGC President Dave Greenwood (pictured below). Many thanks to catering team for the excellent food and hospitality.
Past Presidents Allan Craig and Edward Clark played a 'super seniors' 9 holes at the back of the field and then retired to the sunny patio to watch the groups finish. Today was Allan and Myrtle Craig's Diamond Wedding Anniversary. Allan at golf, Myrtle at 'Book Club' - the perfect recipe for 60 years of marriage!! Congratulations to them both.
Thanks to John Illingworth for organising the event as always and to Competition Secretary Ian Jeffrey for inputting scores and ensuring handicaps will come down at midnight!
The Rex Warren Medal will return to Driffield GC at the end of September 2026 (date tbc).
Note: It was decided in 1986 to inaugurate this medal to celebrate the high office of President of the EGU bestowed upon Rex Warren, President of the East Riding Union in 1974 and the Yorkshire Union 1981. It was first played for in 1987. [see past winners here]
