Burstwick out of the blocks - Junior League gets underway

Burstwick set the early pace in the 2025 Junior League with a 5-1 victory over Beverley.

Eight teams are taking part in two groups of four and Burstwick top Group A thanks to 3&2 wins for Ethan Matthews and James Williamson. Jaydn Bell and Oscar Rayner played out an honourable half.

Talking of halfs - Hainsworth Park and Cave Castle shared the spoils in the other fixture after an incredible three tied matches! It is believed to be the first time this has happened in the Junior League since its inception in 1992. All matches could have gone either way, so 3-3 felt about right in the end.

In Group B, defending champions Hull started their campaign with a thrilling 3-3 draw with Skidby Lakes. Bobby Beasley salvaged a half in the top match against Jack Burt despite being dormie two down. Louie Brookes put the visitors ahead with a 3&2 victory over Tom Hinks before Hull's Harry Earl held on to win 2up against Lucas Wilson in the gathering gloom [pictured above].

Newcomers Brough top the group though thanks to their 4-2 victory over Cottingham Parks. Wins for Tom Bentham and Charlie Thompson got them the four points, whilst Cottingham's Tom Anderson won 3&2 to avoid the whitewash.

Early days, but a great start to the Junior League season with some new names and new clubs looking like they mean business!
